Neighborhoods to Explore
Cartagena’s distinct neighborhoods each have their own character. Here are the ones you will want to experience during your stay.
El Laguito
Home to Ritmo Cartagena. A laid-back peninsula with modern high-rise towers, calm beaches, and stunning sunsets. Walking distance to Bocagrande’s restaurants and shops, yet peaceful enough to feel like your own private oasis.
Bocagrande
Cartagena’s upscale modern district. A long beachfront promenade lined with hotels, shopping malls, international restaurants, and vibrant nightlife. Just a short walk from Ritmo.
Walled City / Old Town
The heart of Cartagena and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Cobblestone streets, colonial architecture, flower-draped balconies, world-class restaurants, rooftop bars, and centuries of history around every corner.
Getsemani
Cartagena’s coolest neighborhood. Once a working-class barrio, Getsemani is now famous for its vibrant street art, authentic local vibe, trendy cocktail bars, and Plaza Trinidad’s nightly gatherings.
Transportation
Getting Around Cartagena
Cartagena is easy to navigate. Here are the best ways to get around during your stay.
Taxis
Yellow taxis are everywhere in Cartagena. Always agree on the fare before getting in, as meters are not commonly used. A ride from El Laguito to the Walled City typically costs 15,000-20,000 COP.
Uber & InDriver
Both apps work well in Cartagena and are generally cheaper than taxis. InDriver lets you set your own price. Uber is convenient for airport transfers and late-night rides. Both offer air-conditioned vehicles.
Walking
Many of Cartagena’s attractions are walkable, especially within the Walled City and Getsemani. From Ritmo, the beach is a 2-minute walk. Bocagrande’s restaurants are 5-10 minutes on foot. Bring comfortable shoes and water.
Airport Transfer
Rafael Nunez International Airport (CTG) is just 15 minutes from Ritmo. Airport transfers coming soon. In the meantime, InDriver and Didi are reliable and affordable options from the airport, typically costing around 30,000 COP.

Safety Tips for Cartagena
Cartagena is one of Colombia’s safest cities and millions of tourists visit each year without incident. That said, smart travel habits go a long way. Here are our top tips.
-
General Awareness Stay aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded areas. Stick to well-lit, populated streets at night. Tourist areas like the Walled City and Bocagrande are well-patrolled.
-
Areas to Avoid at Night Avoid walking alone in less-touristed neighborhoods after dark, particularly areas south of the Walled City beyond Getsemani. Use Uber or a taxi for late-night travel.
-
Keep Valuables Safe Leave expensive jewelry, watches, and large amounts of cash at the suite. Use a cross-body bag. Keep your phone in a front pocket. Our suite has a safe for your valuables.
-
